So it has been quite a long time since I have posted anything on here. I'm a junior now and school has been going great, still hard work but great. I also made the move from Hopkins to Northeast Minneapolis, which cuts my commute to school down to only 15 mins!!! (compared to 45min before!) I'm loving my new house!

Recently I got to visit my old high school with Amanda from admissions. It was super neat to go back and see my old art teacher Ms. Rood. She is the teacher after all who inspired me to go to art school and follow what I love. High school is just as I remembered it but yet in a way so different because of changes at the school. Also going back and visiting has really made me feel old! ha I just turned 21 on november 1st and it seems so weird to think I graduated 3 years ago.

Some update on my work: In my graphic design practicum class were working on some annual reports, I'm doing Barnes and Nobel. I'm also trying to get some present tag or christmas ornaments together for the holiday coming up here at school soon but not sure if I have the time it will take to get them done on time.

Well off to give a tour to a prospective student! Come visit, I may be your tour guide!

Most exciting Summer to Date

Hello everyone!

A standard summer for me usually plays out as work, work,
work some more and then get ready for school. This summer has been far from
normal, and is by far the most exciting to date. I was fortunate enough to
land the job of Assistant Producer for the musical Sweeney Todd performed at
the Burnsville Performing Arts Center. The new Arts Center also sponsored
Saturday night artist mixers that gave me the opportunity to mingle with local
artists, check out some live painting and independent films, as well as
listening to live musical acts in the spacious lobby. Besides involving myself
in Sweeney Todd I have also been working as a CVA Ambassador giving tours to
prospective students, as well as psyching myself up for the upcoming school
year. The new and improved Illustration curriculum is exciting, and I’m
stoked to be in one of Allen Brewer's class. I'm also looking forward to
taking the Native American Arts and Culture class, which I am prepping for
by holding powwows in my back yard every Friday night. More to
come soon!

Summer

Usually when I think of summer vacation, I think of being bored and counting the minutes until I get to start school again. Luckily, this summer has been anything but boring!

For my 21st birthday I received a Canon Rebel SLR camera and I've been taking photos every chance I get. In July, I was the photographer for a fundraising event in White Bear Lake - other than that, my friends have been incredibly nice enough to let me take thousands of photos of them.

Other than taking photos, I have been working in the Admissions Office this summer, helping out with open houses and giving tours to incoming or interested students. It has been a delight being around the school during the summer (even if it is completely vacant of students).

In the beginning of the summer I went to New York for 2 weeks with several other students for a summer class (Art in NYC). It was unbelievably amazing! Thanks to CVA President Ann Ledy, we were able to see so many amazing pieces of art work. We were able to walk around various artists' studios, one of them being the Starn Twins. I accidentally left my umbrella in the Starn twins' studio, so I'm hoping one day I'll see my turquoise polka dotted umbrella hanging in their art work. One day!

Just a couple more weeks until the new semester starts, and I will be in my third year of college. It is really hard to believe I am about to start my third year- it will be fabulous!

Summer time treats

Summer is underway, and I have been enjoying the sunny weather and eating lots of ice cream. But, I have come to the conclusion that I miss school, the homework and all the wonderful qualities that come with being a full time student. I would like to start working with a medium format camera some more and experiment with the many different images that can be made from it. I think I can relax and take in the summer, but I am in need of a good photo adventure somewhere new and out of the city, any suggestions? :)

Reflection of years past...

Wow I have made it! Four years have pasted so quickly. I feel like I was just a scared little freshman not knowing what I was going to do and now I will be graduating in a matter of days. I keep thinking how much I am going to miss my CVA family :( and how I just want to stay just through the summer, but this is not a possibilty. I am a big girl now!

This last semester has been, to me, the most important. I have learned so many skills in such a small amount of time. I have a professional portfolio filled with an artist statement, cover letter, business card and most important my artist resume. I have also written a 20 page, well 17 page paper about my work and the research around it. I have created a cohesive body of work and I gave a 15 min speech in front of people I did and did not know. Looking back I can't believe I accomplished all of that in one semester.

Now what...I have a feeling this is what you are all thinking. What is this girl going to do now that she is out of school. Well to answer this question, I am going on to the U of M Twin Cities to get my teaching license and then my Masters of Education. My goal is to teach high school students, but if I don't like it, I will eventually go and get my MFA so I can teach college level students.

Goodbye CVA, my family and friends of the last 4 years. I will miss you all very much!
